In the recent past, Govt. of India has taken various policy decisions to provide impetus to the growth of gem & jewellery sector in order to enable India develop into a major hub for the Industry, thereby boosting its exports.

As a step in this direction, Delhi State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (DSIIDC) - a Govt. of  Delhi Undertaking, took the initiative to promote this sector in National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi.

For this purpose, an exclusive training Institute - National Institute of Jewellery Design & Technology (NIJDT)  has been established in the year 2005.

The main objective of the institute is to provide trained human resource to the industry, which may soon witness establishment of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Delhi, dedicated solely to gems and jewellery trade/industry.

VISION

To sustain economic growth specially in Gem & Jewellery sector, as India is one of the largest exporter of this product. The country needs pool of skilled manpower, to fill this gap.The Institute will cater to all the sections and will also abide by the terms & conditions laid down in the Education policy.

MISSION

To assist Gems & Jewellery business units and in upgradation of products, quality and to promote export of Gem & Jewellery products in India and abroad by providing trained and skilled human resources in this rapidly expanding sector.

For the growth of gems & jewellery now NIJDT & NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) agreed to work in the area of course positioning, design and finalization of curriculum, selection of faculty, modernization/upgradation of laboratories & co-branding of course.
